Local influencer Ascennie Goh recently shared a frightening experience after being injured by firework debris, even though she said she was standing at what she believed was a safe distance.
She took to Instagram to recount the incident and reminded the public to take extra precautions when watching fireworks.

Hit in the eye by falling debris
According to Ascennie, she was watching a fireworks display with a friend at night and had intentionally stood far away for safety.
However, shortly after a firework exploded in the sky, she suddenly felt something fall and hit her.

She described the object as something black that struck her directly in the eye.
A friend who was with her immediately helped to clean and reduce the inflammation before she was rushed to a nearby clinic. She was later transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
After receiving emergency care, she was told to return for a follow-up as the eye specialist was not available on Sunday.
Fortunately, after undergoing a proper examination by an eye specialist later on, doctors confirmed that her condition was stable. The firework debris had narrowly missed a crucial part of her eye, and she only suffered minor bleeding.

“Please stand really far away”
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Ascennie said this was her first time being injured by fireworks, adding that doctors informed her it was a rare case.
However, she stressed that the incident serves as an important reminder for the public to be extra cautious.
Better make sure it is far enough that even the debris from fireworks falling won’t hit you,” she advised.
While fireworks are often associated with celebration and joy, Ascennie’s experience highlights the importance of prioritising safety, even when watching from a distance.
