M’sian Homestay Owner Finds Large ‘Blood’ Stain On Bed After Guests Check Out

Only received RM150 in compensation from the platform.
A homestay operator shared her shock online after discovering a large ‘blood’ stain on the bed of her rental unit after a group of guests checked out.

According to the woman’s Facebook post, the guests had requested to extend their stay by an additional day.

However, she was unable to accommodate the request as the unit had already been booked by another group, and the guests were informed that they had to check out by 12pm.

Room found in a mess

She said that when her cleaner arrived at around 1pm, the room was already in disarray.

The bed and bedsheets were soaked with what appeared to be a large pool of blood, with the stain visibly absorbed into the mattress.

While the scene looked like blood at first glance, she noted that there was no strong blood smell in the room, making it difficult to immediately determine the exact cause.

Alarmed by the situation, she tried to contact the guests to ask what had happened. However, the guests did not reply to messages or answer calls and were said to have gone completely silent after checking out.

Losses could not be fully recovered

Responding to questions from netizens about compensation, the homestay owner said she believed the guests had already “disappeared”.

She added that the platform involved could only allow claims of up to RM150, which was far from sufficient to cover the losses incurred.

As a result, the bedsheets, mattress, and pillows were deemed unusable and had to be discarded. The room was immediately cleaned and disinfected, and a replacement mattress was arranged to ensure the next guests could check in as scheduled.

She said she ultimately had to bear the losses herself.

Appeal for understanding over deposits

The woman explained that incidents like these were one of the reasons homestay operators often require deposits from guests.

She urged travellers not to blame hosts for such policies, saying that operators frequently face unexpected and costly situations.

“We try our best to maintain the cleanliness and condition of the homestay so every guest can stay comfortably,” she wrote, adding that she hoped guests would treat the property with the same care as their own homes.
