A mother has taken to social media to accuse a school of shirking responsibility and failing to provide answers after her daughter suffered injuries following a Science experiment which went awry.
As a result of the mishap, the girl sustained injuries to her face and eyes, which doctors say most likely will lead to permanent scarring.
Glass beaker explodes in girl’s face
In the Facebook post, the OP wrote that the incident took place on Sept 11 when her daughter was carrying out a Science experiment at her school in Puchong.
According to a doctor’s report attached with the post, it said the girl suffered injuries to her “periorbital areas and the bridge of the nose” after a glass beaker exploded.

Aside from her face and eyes, the girl also sustained cuts to both of her arms.
The doctor also noted that though the wounds have already healed, a degree of permanent scarring will remain on her.

As for the school, it confirmed and expressed regret over the incident, saying that it views the matter “very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation”.
However, it told the OP and other parents to not share any news or photos related to the incident on social media in order to minimise “the spread of negative impressions about the school”.

‘Where’s your accountability?’
The OP wrote that within the next two months, she took her daughter to the hospital to undergo an eye surgery and lodged a police report, all while hoping that the school would handle the matter in a responsible manner.
However, when the two months flew by, she claimed the school didn’t offer a formal explanation for the incident but merely waived one month’s worth of tuition fee, paid six months’ worth of medical fees, and gave RM5,000 in compensation.
The OP also shared a startling piece of information, where the Ministry of Education (MOE) revealed that the school wasn’t formally registered with it.

Following the shocking revelation, the OP is now demanding answers from the school for these questions:
- Whether safety standards were in place for the Science experiment
- Whether there was a certified experiment procedure and proper supervision?
- Whether school had immediately informed the parents and sent the girl to the nearest hospital after the accident occurred
- Whether the school is officially registered and under the supervision of MOE
She also said that the sole purpose of the post was to seek accountability from those she believed was responsible for the mishap.
I want to make this very clear: My child’s injury is not something that can be settled with money. What I want is safety, accountability, answers, and prevention.

“I’m not writing this to attack anyone. I’m only writing as a mother who, after two months of silence, looks at her child’s scars and still cannot get a semblance of a responsible response.”
At the time of writing, the school did not release a statement addressing the OP’s claims.
