Yesterday (Feb 27), we reported about the disappearance of 18-year-old Lin Pei Ting, who left her dormitory in Kuala Lumpur with an unknown man 10 days ago, much to her mother’s worry.
However, in an unexpected twist, it seems that things may not be as dire or serious as Pei Ting’s mother portrayed it to be, where the teen publicly responded to news of her vanishing without a trace.
Girl missing for 10 days responds, lodges police report
News of Pei Ting’s disappearance was first reported by Sin Chew Daily, where her mother said she had moved to Kuala Lumpur six months ago for work alongside her elder sister before going off the grid completely.
She later discovered that Pei Ting had left her dormitory with a man she didn’t recognise on Feb 18, leading her to believe the man was probably an online acquaintance.
Worried for her safety, Pei Ting’s mother pleaded for the public’s help in locating her and shared her missing person notice to a Melaka-based Facebook group.
As news of Pei Ting’s disappearance began to gain traction, it somehow prompted the teen to respond to the news, where she took to her personal Facebook account to set the record straight.
In the post, she attached a photo of a police report she lodged in Subang Jaya along with the following caption:
Hello everyone, this is me. I’m working outside now very well; why am I being talked about online? My family are forcing me not to find work outside and even made verbal threats, which I have evidence of.
“The man in the photo is my boyfriend. Sorry everyone, but this is super embarrassing. I already filed a police report from the beginning,” she wrote.

Several netizens have since implored Pei Ting to return to her family so as to not make them worry and advised her to reconcile with them.
However, some speculated that someone else may be writing the message on Pei Ting’s behalf, raising fears that something untoward may have happened to her.
Whatever it is, we hope Pei Ting will be safe and reunite with her family soon!
