Starting from April 21, students are required to wear a Jalur Gemilang badge on their school uniforms, which includes all schools and institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE), including matriculation colleges and teacher training institutes.
However, there have been concerns of children getting injured by the badge and one such incident recently occurred, which saw a young girl having it stuck underneath her foot.
Jalur Gemilang badge gets stuck in girl’s heel
In a Facebook post which has been making rounds online, it showed a young girl sitting in a wheelchair and receiving treatment at a health clinic.
Another photo showed a close-up view of her right foot, where the Jalur Gemilang badge’s pin is lodged right into her heel, causing her a great deal of pain.

According to the girl’s father, the pin had fallen off her brother’s uniform and landed on the car seat, where she stepped on it without realising its presence.
Please be careful with the Malaysia flag pin. It’s better to buy ones that can be sewn on. These free pins aren’t suitable for younger kids, especially those under 8.”
Safety concerns
This isn’t the first time concerns have been raised ever since the introduction of the Jalur Gemilang badge, with the main worry being kids risking injury while pinning the badge.
In a Sinar Harian report dated April 23, MCA Education Consultative Committee Deputy Chairperson Felicia Wong Yin Ting said students risk injuring themselves if they accidentally step or sit on the pin.

She added long-term usage can also damage school uniforms, especially if the metal pin rusts over time.
