A man who claimed to own six rental properties while still receiving government financial aid meant for low-income B40 households has come under heavy criticism online, prompting him to delete his post and privatise his social media account.
The man had shared on social media that despite owning multiple properties, he successfully applied for and received government assistance intended to support low-income Malaysians.
Screenshots of his post were later circulated widely across social platforms, drawing public outrage and raising questions about the integrity of welfare and scholarship eligibility systems.

Deliberately maintained B40 status
In his post, the man said he had deliberately maintained his B40 status for years so his children could qualify as coming from a low-income household, making them eligible for Public Service Department (JPA) scholarships.
He claimed the scholarships helped cover his children’s university tuition fees, estimated at around RM65,000.
I don’t ask for much as a father. Seeing my children succeed is enough. That is the true meaning of being ‘rich’.”

He also revealed that he currently receives approximately RM1,900 annually through government aid programmes, including the Rahmah Cash Assistance (STR) and MyKasih assistance.
According to his post, the properties under his name include low-cost flats, condominiums, and terrace houses purchased between 2007 and 2023, with an additional property acquired recently.
Sparks backlash
Netizens were quick to criticise his actions, accusing him of exploiting loopholes in the aid system and taking resources away from those who genuinely need assistance.
Many questioned whether current welfare and scholarship screening processes adequately assess applicants’ asset ownership.
Concerns were also raised that if such cases continue, government funds could be channelled to individuals who do not qualify, leaving truly needy families excluded from social assistance programmes.
Deleted post
Following the backlash, the man deleted his original post and switched his Threads account to private. However, screenshots of his statements had already spread online.

Some netizens reportedly went as far as identifying him and lodging complaints with the LHDN.
As of now, the LHDN, the Ministry of Finance, and the Public Service Department have yet to issue an official response regarding the incident.
