A local man was ordered to spend three months in jail after he pleaded guilty to stealing a bunch of bananas from in Rengit, Johor, last Saturday (Jan 4).
NST reported that the accused, Muhammad Fadil Ismail, 35, made the guilty plea when the charge was read out before Magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman at the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Jan 8).

According to the facts of the case, Muhammad Fadil, a father to three children, allegedly committed the theft at a farm belonging to a 56-year-old man in Parit Jaya, Kampung Sungai Bagan Laut, Rengit, at 9.45am.

It also stated that the complainant became increasingly frustrated when he noticed that “rastali” bananas he had cultivated on the farm often vanished.
As such, it prompted him to install a CCTV at the area in hopes of catching the culprit. Eventually, Muhammad Fadil was caught cutting down the banana tree and running away with the fruit.
The complainant immediately lodged a police report, leading to Muhammad Fadil’s arrest on the same day.
In court, deputy public prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip and prosecuting officer Inspector Ling Shao Shen led the prosecution while Muhammad Fadil was represented by Kamarularifin Nordin from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

He was charged with theft, which carries a jail sentence of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
After pleading guilty, Muhammad Fadil was sentenced to three months in jail by the court.
