A birthday trip to Zoo Negara turned into an unexpected rescue mission.
A Malaysian family spotted a tortoise lying completely upside down in its enclosure, struggling to flip itself over.
“Bang, the tortoise is flipped over — is that okay?”
TikTok user @syaasparta shared the now-viral video showing the helpless tortoise struggling to flip itself back up while visitors looked on.
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, she said she was at the zoo with her husband and two children to redeem free birthday tickets.
We were walking toward the Reptile Jungle area and passed by the tortoise enclosure. That’s when we saw one of the tortoises flipped over. But there weren’t any zookeepers around at the time,” she said.
She added that she asked her husband whether it was okay to leave the tortoise like that and they decided to look for help just in case.
Zookeeper didn’t even know
Only after we went inside the Reptile Jungle section did we find a zookeeper. My husband quickly asked, ‘Bang, the tortoise outside is upside down — is that okay?’”
The zookeeper was visibly surprised and asked where it was, before quickly calling in other staff to assist.
Thankfully, they managed to get the tortoise upright again.
The OP managed to record both the initial discovery and the moment the tortoise was rescued both clips were included in her TikTok post.
