Weddings are a big part of one’s life as it’s a celebration of two individuals coming together in marriage and committing to spend the rest of their lives forever.
Sadly for one family, their wedding plans turned sour after the caterer hired to prepare food for guests went missing in action (MIA), resulting in a loss of RM13,000.
M’sian family scammed of RM13K after caterer fails to show up for wedding
Taking to TikTok to shared about the devastating discovery, one of the bride’s family member told viewers about how the caterer’s no-show had left the family in shock.
In the clip, he tearfully recounted how his family were informed that the caterer wouldn’t be turning up despite paying RM13,000 for their services.
As a result, the family had to madly scramble for a backup plan by preparing the food, tables and chairs all by themselves.
Had to cook for 400 guests themselves
Speaking to Harian Metro about the incident, the brother of the bride, Burhanuddin Rabbani Abdul Shukor, said the family tried to contact the caterer several times to inquire about their order for 1,000 guests but to no avail.
“After the solemnization ceremony, we waited until 9pm on Sunday (Dec 24) but got no response. As a result, all of the siblings decided to cook ourselves.
However, we could only cook for 400 guests with a meal consisting of chicken curry, sambal belacan, fruits, and vegetables,” he said.
Burhanuddin added they divided themselves into several groups in looking for tables and chairs, large pots, and cooking utensils.
Thankfully, they managed to borrow chairs and tables from a nearby mosque and several generous individuals sponsored apam balik, popcorn, and pastries, allowing the wedding to go on as usual at the Serting Junior Science College Hall.
Police report lodged
Burhanuddin said a police report was also filed over the incident at the Bandar Seri Jempol police station.
“Hopefully, there will be a ray of hope to recover the RM13,000. She (my sister) saved money for the wedding for a long time, only to get scammed in the end,” he said.
NST reported that the police report was confirmed by Jempol district police chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook, who said the case is now being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
