When a bowl of pork noodles jumped from RM8.50 to RM15.50, many customers weren’t shy about expressing their shock.
The backlash was directed at a popular restaurant chain known for selling pork noodles, often found in shopping malls.
Turns out, the price hike didn’t just stir conversations, it triggered a formal inspection by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), who showed up at the outlet on March 29 following a customer complaint.
“We didn’t want to raise the price either”
In response, the eatery shared a heartfelt explanation online, saying they’ve heard the same questions countless times — and honestly, they feel just as helpless.
They explained that pork prices have increased more than 10 times in the past year, going from RM11/kg to RM26/kg.
Rent and staff wages have doubled, and every ingredient they use keeps getting more expensive.
On top of that, they use premium pork that’s specially fed, certified, and costs at least 10% more than regular meat.
You see a bowl of noodles. We see endless cost pressures.”
No shortcuts, no compromises
They’ve been advised to cut corners, make the meat patty smaller, reduce the portion, or swap their broth for instant soup. But they refused.
To them, this isn’t just a meal — it’s a promise to serve something they’re proud of.
We’d rather lose money than serve a watered-down version.”
They recalled how, in the past, customers told them they wouldn’t mind paying a little more if the quality stayed the same.
But now that they’ve done exactly that, they asked if people would still support them.
And if pork prices ever drop? They say they’ll be the first to bring prices down too.
