A Malaysian e-hailing driver had an intense start to her day when a woman unexpectedly gave birth inside her car while she was driving the family to the hospital.
The incident took place at around 7.30am in Bandar Letat, Sabah when Norwin Mohamad had just arrived to pick up a passenger when several people hurried towards her vehicle carrying a woman who was already in labour.

Baby delivered before they reached the hospital
Norwin began driving toward Duchess of Kent Hospital but the woman, believed to be in her twenties, delivered her baby before they arrived.
According to Harian Metro, the sudden birth left the woman’s husband and father panicking in the back seat.
Norwin said she managed to stay calm throughout the situation. As a mother of five, she was familiar with childbirth and simply asked everyone to stay composed while she continued driving.
She recalled feeling worried when the newborn did not cry after being delivered by another woman in the car who seemed to act as a traditional midwife.
Norwin said she hoped the baby was alright but did not get to follow up after sending them to the hospital.

Waived the fare after seeing family’s distress
Norwin said she did not charge the family any fare, adding that she understood what they were going through.
She also felt sympathy when she saw the woman’s husband remove his shirt to wipe away the blood that had soaked the car seat.
The husband and the father apologised repeatedly for the mess but Norwin assured them it was alright.
After dropping them off, she immediately sent her car for cleaning.
Car wash centres offered free cleaning
Norwin later uploaded photos of the incident on social media.

Several car wash centres contacted her and offered to clean her car for free, saying they wanted to help because she had helped someone in need.
Norwin was later told that the woman had been experiencing contractions since 3am but did not go to the hospital earlier because the family was believed to be foreign nationals.
Norwin did not manage to get their details but hoped the mother and baby were safe.
