M’sian Duo Outsmarts Car Towing Scammer After Learning About It On TikTok

Social media to the rescue!
As we all know, scammers are everywhere. From online schemes to face-to-face encounters, they are always ready to use their finest tricks to trap innocent victims.

Luckily, the social media app TikTok came to the rescue for a Malaysian couple who encountered a scammer who attempted to trick them into thinking their car needed to be towed away as required by the law.

In a TikTok video posted by @nazuuchan on Monday (Dec 23), it showed him and his companion stopping the car at an R&R in Seremban when a man walked up and struck a conversation with them.

The man, who claimed to be a debt collector, told the OP that the car had to be towed immediately due to a loan that was allegedly unpaid.

To bolster his credibility, the man insisted that they wind down the window lower, which then allowed him to shove his hand through the gap and show what he purported to be “proof” of the unpaid loan and his authority to tow the vehicle.

The man even went on to deny that he was part of a scam syndicate but was merely one who was assigned by the bank to seize the OP’s vehicle.

However, the tables quickly turned on the man when the OP began firing a line of questions that quickly poked holes at his claims.

“I pay my car loan every month,” said the OP firmly. “So why are you saying I haven’t paid it back?”

He then further pressed into the authenticity of the man’s ‘evidence’, which pointed out more flaws as a result.

Which car are you supposed to tow? The photos you’re showing me don’t even prove it’s my car.”

Caught off guard by the line of questioning, the man was left speechless and quickly made his exit, abandoning the ruse altogether.

Towards the end of the clip, the OP and his friend couldn’t help but find the situation amusing as they shared a laugh over the scammer’s tactics.

“Did he honestly think this would work? Does he think I don’t watch TikTok?” the OP quipped, clearly amused by the scammer’s poorly thought-out attempt.
