Malaysia’s drive toward modern infrastructure hit a speed bump recently when a viral video revealed a case of parking misconduct in Kuantan.
The incident has sparked a heated debate on public etiquette and the importance of knowing where to park your ride.
M’sian drivers park their non-EV cars at Tesla charging spots

The video, which has fuelled plenty of online chatter, shows petrol-powered cars—primarily local favourites like Proton Saga and Perodua Bezza—taking up parking spots meant for electric vehicles (EVs).

These spots, designed to charge EVs and keep them rolling, were instead occupied by cars that have no need to plug in, leaving actual EV owners in a bit of a jam.
To add insult to injury, the chargers were meant for high-end EVs like Teslas, which are now forced to search for power elsewhere.
While it’s true that parking spaces were in short supply, that doesn’t mean it’s okay to “charge” into a spot meant for someone else.
The video has stirred up a lot of online reactions, with many people calling out the lack of respect for public spaces.

One user sarcastically commented, “Wow, does Kuantan have so many Tesla users that the EV spots are packed?”

Another joked, “Did I miss the memo—when did Perodua and Proton start making electric cars?”

Concerns about enforcement also took the spotlight, with one netizen asking, “What can be done in situations like this? Isn’t there a towing service that could clear these cars?”
