In Malaysia, tipping delivery riders is not a common practice, making it even more unusual for a rider to not only receive a substantial tip but to return it.
This was exactly what happened recently when a food delivery rider won the hearts of many netizens after he returned an RM500 tip to a customer who appeared to have mistakenly given him the large sum to pay for her food delivery.
The rider shared his experience on the Facebook group “GrabFood Rider Malaysia,” where the post quickly went viral.
The incident started when the rider delivered an order placed by the customer’s child. After handing over the food, the rider was taken aback when the woman offered him a tip.
At first, he thought it was a small amount, maybe RM2 or RM3. However, he was shocked to see it was RM500.
What’s the highest tip you’ve ever received? For me, it was RM500. I delivered an order placed by her child. After delivering the food, the woman handed me a tip. I thought it was RM2 or RM3, but it was RM500,” he shared.
The rider inquired about the purpose of the money, and the woman responded that it was intended to pay for the food.
He then informed her that the payment had already been made by her child. Despite his explanation, the woman ignored him and returned to the house.
Suspecting that the woman might have been forgetful or unwell, the rider decided to return the money.
He documented his actions by taking photos of himself placing the money back into the customer’s mailbox and texting the customer to inform her about it.
Netizens were quick to praise the rider for his integrity.

“Good job, don’t let money cloud our judgment. Sometimes, if the customer is short of money, just let it go. Soon, you will receive much more, even if what you let go of was just a small amount.”
“Just wait, brother. Usually, when you suppress the evil within yourself to do good, God will reward you with unexpected blessings. I’ve experienced it too… There was a time when I couldn’t even afford to buy milk for my child. God is the provider, just keep trying and don’t stop.”
