M’sian Dad Of School Bullying Victim Shares 4 Steps On Ensuring A Fair & Thorough Investigation

"With CIC recording as evidence, we can bring the perpetrator to court."
A father has shared valuable information after his primary school child became the victim of bullying by a third-year secondary school student several weeks ago.

‘Let the case reach CIC’

Posted on Facebook, Huzaimar Yahya emphasised that many parents mistakenly believe that filing a police report is enough, but there are several crucial steps that need to be taken to ensure a thorough investigation of the case.

“Let the bullying case reach the Child Interview Centre (CIC). Only then can the perpetrator be brought to court,” he explained.

He shared his experience in a Facebook post and later on Threads, revealing how he had learned these steps through his own dealings with the situation.

According to Huzaimar, his child’s case had been resolved, and he felt it was important to share this knowledge with other parents.

Four essential steps

Huzaimar listed four essential steps that should be taken immediately on the day of the incident:

  1. Obtain CCTV Footage
    • Request that the school or location where the incident occurred store the footage and not delete it.
  2. File a Police Report
    • Do this as soon as possible after the incident.
  3. Take Your Child to a Government Hospital
    • Obtain a medical report (CT scan, X-ray, bruise measurements).
  4. Meet with the Investigating Officer (IO)
    • Provide a detailed account of what happened.

File police report and go to hospital immediately

Huzaimar advised parents to file a police report and take their child to the hospital immediately, as the effects of bullying may still be evident at the time.

Following that, parents should visit the CIC for further proceedings, including victim testimony recording, which is crucial as evidence in court. Counseling sessions for both the victim and the parents, who may also be traumatized, are also available.

The CIC is not only for bullying cases but also for child abuse cases. With CIC recording as evidence, we can bring the perpetrator to court,” he added.
