A man working as a pasar malam helper couldn’t help but let the tears roll down his face after he was sentenced to two months in jail by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court today.
This comes after his request to be jailed for only a day was rejected by the judge following his admission to stealing hundreds of milk cartons.

According to a report by NST, the accused, 34-year-old Hamim Heji, had allegedly stolen 261 cartons of 1L UHT chocolate milk and 336 cartons of 1L UHT full cream milk belonging to Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad.
The offense was committed between 4.51am on July 1, 2023 and 12.17am to 4.43am on July 22, 2023, at the premises in Jalan Prof Khoo Kay Kim.
Two other accomplices have yet to have their day in court for the theft.
Hamim was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which was read with Section 34. It provides a maximum 10-year jail term and a fine if convicted. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
In mitigation, National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer M. Soosai Raj asked the court to hand out a lighter sentence, saying that Hamim earned only RM900 monthly by helping out a friend at the pasar malam.
He has three children aged 3, 5 and 7. This offence carries a mandatory jail term. He asks for a one-day imprisonment and a minimal fine as he has to care for his children.
“It is his first offence and his guilty plea has saved the court’s time,” he said.
However, deputy public prosecutor Nadiah Malek Fauzie argued that a sentence based on the facts of the case and the losses incurred must be meted out.
Hamim was eventually ordered to spend two months in jail starting today, causing him to break down in tears.
