A female college student in her 20s was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan at her family home in USJ 2/1, Subang Jaya, on Thursday (Aug 14).
Police have since confirmed that she was murdered.
Father discovered her body
Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the district’s operations room received a distress call at 11.55am.
The caller, who was the victim’s father, found her body in the living room on the second floor of the house.
According to Berita Harian, the initial checks showed that she had already died.
Cause of death: Strangulation
A post-mortem was carried out at Serdang Hospital, where pathologists confirmed the cause of death was due to bleeding around the hyoid bone in the neck.
She also suffered injuries to her muscles and bones consistent with manual strangulation (being choked).
Lived with sister and cousin
Police said the victim lived with her sister and cousin but was alone at home when the body was discovered.
The house belongs to the family, and no valuables were reported missing.
Investigations ongoing
Wan Azlan confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He added that investigations are still ongoing to determine the motive.
