Over the years, we have heard countless stories of people being caught off guard whenever they realise they’re getting ridiculously charged for their meal.
A customer literally took off on his heels after he was told that a plate of char koay teow he ordered was going to cost him a whopping RM59, much to the vendor’s chagrin.
Customer runs away over RM59 char koay teow
The incident was brought to light in a Facebook video posted by Penang Kini, where it showed the vendor recounting the timeline of events.
According to the vendor, the customer had ordered a ‘char koay teow special’, which came with noodles, prawns, cockles, an egg, and sliced chilis.
He also made it a point to emphasise that the price was RM59, not RM59,000.

When the customer made the order, he acted arrogantly and even asked for an extra half-boiled egg. But once he heard it was RM59, he immediately ran off.
“If you didn’t have the money to eat, you should just go to a cheaper stall instead,” the vendor fumed.
The vendor also cursed the customer out in the clip before appealing to the public to support his business.

Netizens defend customer
In the comment section, netizens were fully on the customer’s side in the matter and slammed the vendor for his exorbitant prices.
‘What the f*** is this RM59 price? What was being put into it? Was it lobster, king crab, or lamb shank? People aren’t going to support you with such prices.’

‘RM59 is enough to eat five plates (of char koay teow) elsewhere.’

One jokingly asked whether payment via installments was accepted.

Meanwhile, some called upon the the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDNKK) to step in and investigate.
