While many couples dream of a picture-perfect wedding, the financial reality behind it isn’t always so glamorous.
Recently, a Malaysian woman revealed that she and her husband took a RM20,000 personal loan to fund their wedding, sparking discussions about the costs and choices behind tying the knot.
Took out RM20k just to tie the knot
According to mStar, the woman revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that although they took the loan, they have been comfortably managing the monthly repayments of RM300.

So far, it’s not too burdensome,” she explained.
She emphasised that taking such a loan is only advisable for those who are desperate to marry and confident in their partner’s character.
The couple split all expenses equally, making the financial burden more manageable.
“We don’t count every penny”
She added that their arrangement works because neither is petty about money — “So far, things are going well because neither of us is calculative.”
Although their story has a happy ending, this approach clearly isn’t for everyone.
