An unmarried couple in Johor Bahru found themselves caught for allegedly committing the offence of ‘khalwat‘ (close proximity) during a raid last week.
When asked for an explanation for their actions, they had a rather odd reason for them staying together in the same room.
Conducted raid at early morning
According to a Facebook post, the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) carried out a raid on a two-storey terrace house at 2.30am after receiving a public complaint.
When they made their way into the house, they knocked on one of the room’s doors for seven minutes before a woman in her 20s opened it while clad in shorts and a T-shirt.

As the room was dimly lit, JAINJ officers had to use flashlights to find the light switch and turn it on.
When they did, they found a man lying naked underneath a blanket on the bed and he was given a towel to cover himself.
Found room flooded with condoms
The post also mentioned that the officers’ noses were hit by a strong stench and discovered multiple used condoms scattered across the room, with some being thrown underneath the bed.

When questioned by the officers, the couple insisted they were “friends” who shared no family ties with each other.
The man, who works in JB, later admitted that he had been seeing his partner and rented the room for RM500 monthly.
According to the public complaint, this wasn’t the man’s first visit. He was also found to have rented a room located 10km away and often went to the house late at night on his motorcycle to avoid detection.
The couple also told officers that they actually plan to tie the knot. They were eventually arrested and taken to the police station for investigation.
