A doctor recently took to social media to warn the public about the dangers of not wearing protection while having intercourse as it can lead to diseases like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
This comes after one of her followers shared a heartbreaking story of how her life was ruined by her husband’s infidelity.
‘My life has been destroyed’
In the viral Threads post, the doctor wrote that she received a message from a follower who informed her that she had been diagnosed with HIV.
The woman added that she felt her life had effectively been “destroyed” even though she did nothing to warrant the diagnosis.
Husband admits to affair
The woman told the doctor that her husband had also tested positive for HIV following a medical test.
He later admitted that he had sought out sexual services but claimed that it happened “only once or twice.”
Needless to say, the woman was filled with hopelessness rather than anger as she now had to live with the pain of trusting the wrong person forever.
Warning to others
The doctor urged the public to always wear protection and not assume that one-night stands will not lead to devastating consequences.
Many people often think: ‘It’s just once, nothing will happen’, or ‘There’s no need for a condom‘. But the virus doesn’t care how many times you do it. Even once can change your life forever.”
While the doctor acknowledged that condoms aren’t 100% effective in preventing sexually-transmitted diseases (STIs), she said it nevertheless lowers the risk of infection.
“If you have relations outside your relationship, at least use a condom. Don’t bring the disease back to an innocent partner.
“I’ve heard countless people telling me that they never expected to contract HIV, but the disease doesn’t discriminate against one’s status, appearance, or age.”
The doctor then ended her post by urging those who participated in risky activities to get tested for HIV quickly.
