Buying a house is a dream for many, but turning it into reality often requires careful financial planning and discipline.

For Mohd Sollehi Arshad, 31, and his wife, Munirah Mahmud, 30, saving 20% of their income each month was the key to achieving their goal.

After five years of marriage, the couple recently purchased their dream home—a double-storey terrace house in Mambau, Negeri Sembilan—valued at nearly RM700,000.

Reported by Harian Metro, the couple shared that they hadn’t been actively searching for a house when they stumbled upon a property exhibition during a shopping trip for household items.

At the exhibition, they were introduced to the property’s features and its proximity to their parents’ home, which sparked their interest.

“When we looked at the location and the features of the house, we felt it was a suitable choice for us,” said Mohd Sollehi.

“We had always planned to buy our own home, but we hadn’t been seriously looking or making concrete plans. After the exhibition, we were drawn to the house’s modern design and location.”

The house-buying process went smoothly for the couple, thanks to the assistance of the salesperson, who handled the arrangements.

However, Mohd Sollehi emphasized the importance of financial preparation, saying their consistent saving habit made a significant difference.

“Every month, my wife and I set aside at least 20 percent of our income into savings. This helped us not only with the down payment but also in securing a loan, as it assured the bank of our financial stability,” he explained.

While saving for the house was a priority, the couple also managed their finances carefully post-purchase.

Mohd Sollehi mentioned that additional expenses such as renovations and interior design required further planning.

“We’ve allocated savings for post-purchase costs like renovations, but we make sure everything stays within our financial limits,” he said.

The couple was particularly drawn to the home’s spacious design, which features an open layout between the living room and kitchen, making it ideal for family gatherings.

Although they don’t have children yet, they appreciated having ample space for future plans and hosting large family events.

“We liked the modern, open concept of the home. It’s perfect for our big family when they visit, and it’s also located in a newly developed area with a lot of potential,” said Mohd Sollehi.

While the area currently lacks commercial developments, future plans include the construction of schools, medical centers, and commercial buildings, which the couple finds reassuring.

“These future developments will make it more convenient for us and other residents, and the house’s location near the highway is a bonus,” he added.

For this couple, a disciplined approach to saving and thoughtful financial planning made their dream of homeownership a reality.
