Local clothing brand Padini is facing intense criticism and backlash after a now-deleted TikTok clip showed it allegedly fat shaming customers.
Following the online furore, the brand subsequently issued a public apology over the incident and promised not to repeat the same mistake.
What the clip showed
In the clip, it featured one of its employees seemingly deep in thought along with the following caption:
“How do I tell the customer that it’s not our clothes that are small, but that they need to go on a diet?”

Unsurprising to say the least, the clip went viral for all the wrong reasons and attracted a wave of backlash from netizens who called the brand out for insulting plus-sized customers.

Apology
The clip was later taken down by Padini, who then released a public apology on its TikTok account.
In the statement, it expressed regret over the clip’s insensitive tone and for offending the public.
We take full responsibility and have removed the video from all our platforms. We deeply regret this lapse in judgement and the hurt it has caused.
“We recognise the importance of listening to our community and learning from this experience. The management is reviewing our internal processes to prevent similar issues in the future.”

Padini also reiterated it’s committed to treating everyone with respect and understanding while continuing to maintain the trust of customers, workers, and the public.
