M’sian Claims Teachers Get “Free Salary” On School Holidays, Later Says It Was A Social Experiment Following Backlash

“Try being a teacher first,” netizens say.
A Malaysian woman has sparked outrage online after questioning why teachers continue to receive full salaries even when they are not teaching during school holidays.

She claimed the situation was “unfair” compared to workers in other sectors who have to work continuously.

Paid without any work throughout year-end break

According to mStar, in her post, the woman criticised educators, suggesting that teachers were being paid without doing any work throughout the year-end break.

School holidays are coming. Teachers are basically getting free salary for a whole month. I think it’s really unfair. Those earning RM10,000 get it just like that.

They don’t work but still get paid, while we in the private sector have to work day and night just to get a half-month bonus, that too if we’re lucky,” she wrote.

She also compared teaching to private-sector jobs, claiming corporate employees had to “struggle more” for their rewards.

“Try being a teacher first,” netizens say

Her post triggered immediate backlash, with many netizens reprimanding her for belittling the teaching profession. Some told her to try becoming a teacher before criticising them.

In response, the woman insisted she was not arrogant and claimed she had actually been offered a place at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) after SPM.

“I’m not being proud. I was offered IPG after SPM, but I chose to study arts and culinary at a private university,” she said.

Backlash intensifies — then she says it was a social experiment

As criticism mounted, the woman later posted an apology, claiming that her earlier remarks were part of a “social experiment”.

She also added that she would be pursuing a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Education (DPLI) at an IPG in the northern region beginning this December.

“Hopefully I get posted to Kelantan or Johor because I really want to meet a soulmate from one of those states,” she added.

Netizens don’t buy her explanation

However, many were unconvinced by her apology and questioned the authenticity of her claims regarding the DPLI offer.

Since when does IPG offer DPLI? Are you telling the truth? Seems fake.”

Many netizens argued that her sudden explanation seemed like an excuse after receiving heavy backlash, saying the entire saga could have been avoided if she had shown more respect towards educators.
