A Malaysian woman recently took to social media to share what she described as a nightmare rental experience, claiming her landlord monitored her and her housemates round the clock using CCTV inside the unit.
According to her, the landlord allegedly watched them eat, cook, and even hang their laundry, sending constant messages whenever she spotted something she didn’t like.
Complained about “water stains” & laundry weight
The tenant said the landlord once complained about “water droplets” left on the table even after they had cleaned it.
She also claimed the landlord insisted their laundry exceeded the washing machine’s 7kg limit after it absorbed water, saying it could “damage the machine” and later even set strict rules for using it.
Remote lights-off & endless messages
Things didn’t stop there.
The tenant said the landlord remotely switched off lights if she thought they were wasting electricity and frequently sent messages reminding them to turn off lights, even at 3am.
She told us to switch it off immediately. It wasn’t even the first time,” the tenant wrote.
Mentally draining experience
The tenant claimed the landlord later admitted to watching the CCTV daily, leaving them feeling like they had no privacy at all.
She warned others to check rental units properly before signing any agreements to avoid similar situations.

The story has since gone viral, with many netizens urging the tenant to leave as soon as possible despite having a month left on her lease.
Some also questioned whether it was legal for landlords to monitor tenants this way, calling it a serious invasion of privacy.
