M’sian Claims 6 Cats Have Died At Taman Kucing Klang Within Just 2 Weeks Of Opening

Klang mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan has since issued a statement denying the claim.
A netizen has come forth with a list of damning claims of cats being mistreated and left to die at a cat shelter named Taman Kucing Klang, which had just opened two weeks ago.

The allegations, which has since gone viral on various social media platforms, gained widespread attention online, eventually prompting an official response from the mayor of Klang.

Netizen exposes poor conditions at Taman Kucing Klang

In a lengthy thread shared on Reddit, the netizen wrote how he came to the conclusion that Taman Kucing Klang, which opened on Aug 18, was a “disaster”.

He started by highlighting the location of the cat shelter, saying that it was “isolated, hidden and hard to find”.

Then, he turned his attention to the building housing the stray cats, where he noted the roof had no insulation, making the living conditions for the felines unbearable due to the heat.

However, the issue that bothered him the most was how weak and malnourished the cats looked, where he claimed that they were forced to live in unthinkable conditions.

Too many stray cats are locked up in one compound and seem to not have any health screening. We see some cats are sick, one kitten dead inside.

“Food was difficult to access, litter box uncleaned and filthy, rubbish and plastic was inside. It was horrible till some cats actually climbed up until the top of the tall wall just to relax there,” he wrote.

The netizen also alleged that due to the shelter’s poor conditions, a total of six cats have lost their lives within a span of two weeks.

Klang mayor responds

Following the now-viral allegations, the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) took to its official Facebook account to address the matter.

According to Klang mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan, she said she paid the cat shelter a visit yesterday (Sept 2) and was satisfied with its level of cleanliness and overall condition.

I appreciate the public’s concern, but some of the information being disseminated is irrevocably false, especially claims that the cats are hungry and abandoned.

“The report of several cat deaths is also incorrect; only one cat has died since the park’s opening, and it was placed outside the park by an unknown individual,” she said.

However, Noraini added that she will work with the developer to make improvements to the cat shelter.

“MBDK is looking to build an extra veranda to enhance the stray cats’ comfort, as well as install shading nets to cut down the excessive afternoon heat in the existing shelter. We will also that the cats’ nutrition will be cared for.

“Being territorial creatures, cats need space to roam around freely. As such, caretakers will let the cats out of the enclosure to explore the park in the morning.

“We also plan to work with with volunteers interested in cat care, given the positive and proud support from the community towards the cat park,” she added.
