For as long as we can remember, chap fan, or economy rice, has always cemented itself as the most economic (pun intended) choice of meal for Malaysians.
Unfortunately, that image has largely eroded in recent years, no thanks to countless of complaints by netizens concerning “expensive” chap fan.
‘RM9 for this?!’
In yet another instance, a man recently took to social media to bemoan over how he was charged RM9 for a serving of chap fan that only had two kinds of dishes.
According to the photo, he had ordered white rice along with a serving of pork and a fried egg.
He added in the caption that he only took a small portion of pork and “paid with trembling hands” when he was informed of the price.
He also quipped that his heart was still “bleeding” from the incident.
Reactions
Netizens had plenty to say in the comment section, with some comments ranging from shock to that of resignation.
One wrote that based on the photo, the chap fan wasn’t just expensive, but was also “freaking expensive”.
Another told the OP to prepare himself to eating bread in the future as gas prices are expected to increase soon.
Meanwhile, one netizen tried to comfort the OP by saying that if the chap fan tasted good, it would make the pain of paying RM9 for it hurt less.
