M’sian Boy Nearly Dies At His Own Birthday Party After Balloon Gets Stuck Inside Throat

A close call.
What was supposed to be a celebratory event nearly turned into a deadly affair after a young boy had a balloon stuck inside his throat during his birthday party.

Thankfully, doctors managed to remove it from his throat before it was too late and it has since taught the boy’s family a sobering lesson.

In a Facebook post written by the boy’s mother Nurul Huda Zulkhairi, she said the birthday party was held on Tuesday (May 20), where she invited her son’s close friends and teachers to the event.

Halfway through the celebrations, Nurul’s sister-in-law told her husband that she noticed the boy was wheezing. But Nurul’s husband didn’t think much of it and said he’d go and get an inhaler as the boy had suffered asthma attacks previously.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Nurul’s brother-in-law came rushing to her husband with the boy in his arms, whose face had turned blue as his heart had stopped beating.

“My husband and his friend immediately started procedures and they thought he might have choked on some food. But after administering CPR and another technique on Uwais (my son), no food came out,” she recounted.

As such, they decided to rush the boy to the hospital, with Nurul’s husband continuing to perform CPR on him while on the way there.

Upon reaching the hospital, doctors took over and discovered a balloon was lodged in his throat as they were about to intubate him.

The balloon was then quickly removed and the boy’s life was snatched from the jaws of death after doctors performed CPR on him again.

Everything happened so fast. It turned out Uwais had been joking around with his friend by putting a balloon in his mouth while running, where he most likely choked on it.

“Because of one balloon, I almost lost my child. I share this story as a reminder to all parents: small things we take lightly, like a single balloon, can lead to tragedy if not properly supervised,” wrote Nurul.
