We all know that one colleague who always seems to have a different reason for taking sick leave. While many assume they are just trying to slack off, some may actually have legitimate reasons behind it.
A story was shared on Threads by a netizen (@cintaaina), who recounted how she noticed one of her staff members taking a one-day medical leave every month.
At her workplace, employees who achieve full attendance are entitled to a special allowance, which the staff member frequently missed out on due to her recurring MC.
Underwent monthly blood transfusions
Curious about the situation, the boss asked the staff member’s supervisor for clarification.
She was then informed that the staff member named Nurhanisa was undergoing monthly blood transfusions at the hospital to manage Thalassemia Major.
According to the post, without regular transfusions, she would experience extreme fatigue and physical weakness.
Approved special leave without deducting allowance
Realising the seriousness of the condition, the boss requested Nurhanisa to submit medical documents to the Human Resources department.
The company later approved special leave for her hospital appointments without deducting her attendance allowance.
She kept thanking me repeatedly,” the boss shared. “I could see how much this meant to her.”
Remained positive despite health challenges
Despite her health challenges, Nurhanisa was described as someone who remained positive. The boss recalled a moment when she joked about receiving blood transfusions.
“She once told me, ‘Puan, when I receive other people’s blood, I wonder if my character will change to match the donor’s,’” she said.
However, the story later took a sad turn. The post revealed that Nurhanisa has since passed away after her long battle with Thalassemia.
