A motorcyclist was almost strangled after a kite string sliced right through his neck while riding near a park in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday (July 20).
Aside from his neck, the kite string also left his clothes and bag strap torn too.

The incident was first brought to light in a Threads post, where delivery rider Muhammad Faris Rosaidee recounted how the incident unfolded.
He later spoke in greater detail with, Harian Metro, saying he was travelling from his home in Batu Caves to Bandar Sri Damansara to meet a friend.

I was riding along the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), a route I regularly use, when I felt something brush against me before a kite string suddenly tightened around my neck.
“I didn’t see the string. I felt it first touch my body, then rise to chest level and finally around my neck.
“I was wearing three layers of clothing at the time – a jacket, a shirt, and I had a backpack. All three were torn, and it scraped the skin on my shoulder slightly,” he said.

Fortunately, Faris didn’t suffer any severe injuries but was left shaken by the incident.
Filed report with police & DBKL
Faris said he received treatment at a nearby clinic and filed a police report at the Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD).
He added the local police station in Kepong contacted him and helped him in filing a complaint to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the traffic police.

Faris alleged that he’s not the first to be injured by kite strings in the area as similar incidents had been reported previously.
“I call upon DBKL to create designated kite-flying zones to prevent future accidents and encouraged others affected to come forward. I’m just worried it might happen to someone else next time.”
DBKL responds
Following the incident, DBKL announced that it would increase enforcement in kite flying hotspots and ban kite flying near roads, highways, or residential areas.
If caught using or selling sharp or modified kite strings, offenders may face fines or legal action.

“The public is urged to follow safety guidelines at all times when engaging in recreational activities, including kite flying, especially near roads or traffic routes.
“Safety should always be prioritised for both oneself and others,” it said in a statement.
