Last Saturday (Mar 22), a jewellery shop at the NSK Kota Damansara supermarket in Petaling Jaya became the target of a robbery which saw seven trays of jewellery worth RM2 million being snatched.
Fortunately, police managed to arrest the suspect on the same day of the heist and have revealed a startling fact about the suspect and his reason for the crime.
M’sian auxiliary cop robs RM2mil worth of gold
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, he said the 32-year-old suspect was an auxiliary policeman working for a utility company, reported NST.
He added the robbery was carried out all by the suspect himself and that he used a company-issued firearm to commit his first robbery.

“Investigations found that on the day of the incident, the suspect was not working and was scheduled for the midnight shift after the robbery.
The suspect had the password and access to take the firearm. He took the firearm and committed the robbery before returning the weapon to its original place before going home to prepare for his midnight shift.
“However, he didn’t make it for his shift as he was arrested by police before he left for work,” he said.

Police also seized a set of keys, a Proton-branded remote control, a mobile phone, a backpack, 81 gold chains, RM1,800 in cash, a police card in the suspect’s name, and other items related to the case.
Committed robbery to pay off debt
Hussein added the suspect, who worked as an auxiliary cop for the past eight years, had carried out the robbery to pay off a debt amounting to RM20,000.
However, police are still working to determine who exactly was the money owed to.

FMT reported that the suspect’s family currently resides in Kelantan and police believe he may have planned to flee there after the robbery.
He has since been remanded for seven days until Mar 29.
