As the Olympic Games capture our excitement, there’s more good news. Well, Malaysia is standing out with impressive rewards for athletes.
According to Forbes, Malaysia is one of the top 15 countries offering substantial bonuses to their Olympic gold medalists.
We’ve earned a prestigious spot, ranked fourth, with a remarkable bonus of $214,000 (RM992,634) for those who clinch the gold medal.
That’s a significant reward for our sporting heroes!
But the generosity doesn’t stop there. The Sun reported, bronze medalists will receive 10% of the total gold bonus, ensuring that their achievements are also well-recognised.
Additionally, all Malaysian athletes, regardless of their podium position, are entitled to a lifetime pension ranging from approximately $400 (RM1,855) to $1,100 (RM5,101) per month, as reported by Forbes.
When it comes to top rewards, Hong Kong leads the way with an astonishing $768,000 (RM3.5 million) for their gold medalists.
Israel follows in second place, offering $275,000 (RM1.2 million), while Serbia stands third with $218,000 (around RM1 million) for their gold winners.
Earlier, the New Straits Times highlighted an even more exciting development, Malaysia is offering RM4 million to the first Malaysian athlete to secure an Olympic gold medal.
This generous prize includes a serviced apartment valued at RM1 million, along with RM1 million from the government.
The total prize pool is further bolstered by contributions from Malaysian companies, including RM1 million from Yinson Holdings, RM500,000 each from Matrix Concepts Holdings Berhad and MJ Health Screening Centre, and an additional RM1 million through the National Sports Incentive Scheme (SHAKAM).
