M’sia Crowned 1st Mobile Legends World Champion, Wins RM4.6mil In Prize Money

They narrowly defeated the Philippines in 7 intense matches.
Malaysia’s very own esports team for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), the Selangor Red Giants (SRG), have cemented themselves as the best team in the world after they were crowned as the first world champion.

This comes after they prevailed over the Philippines’ AP Bren with a 4-3 victory in a closely-fought out grand final at the 2024 MLBB Mid Season Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia yesterday (Jul 14).

On top of the winning the prestigious title, SRG was also awarded USD1 million (approximately RM4.6 million) in prize money for their victory, while defending champions and runner-up AP Bren took home USD500,000 (RM2.3 million).

The cherry on top later came in the form of an SRG player being named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match, who was none other than 18-year-old Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, who goes by the in-game name ‘Sekysss’.

Speaking to NST in a post-match interview, Haqqullah said the win was a dream come true for him.

I feel like I am dreaming right now because this is my first international tournament and we are the champions.

“We proved to all the netizens, who said Malaysia would (lose) 4-0 to AP Bren, wrong. Alhamdulillah, thank you to all the Malaysian fans who supported us,” he said.

The win also attracted the attention of key political figures, such as prime minister Anwar Ibrahim and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who congratulated the team on social media.

Congratulations to SRG for their historic win and thank you for making all Malaysians proud!
