Malaysia’s wushu team made the country proud at the 17th World Wushu Championships 2025 in Brasília, Brazil, bringing home a total of 5 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals across multiple events.
The surge began when Si Shin Peng claimed Malaysia’s first gold in men’s qiangshu with 9.756 (Sept 5).
The next day turned into a double celebration with Tan Cheong Min striking gold in women’s nangun (9.746) and Si Shin Peng added another in men’s jianshu (9.746), taking the medal tally to three.
On Sept 6, Lee Jia Rong won women’s daoshu for Malaysia’s fourth gold, tying with Hong Kong’s Michelle Yeung but emerged as the winner based on the difficulty level.
The capstone came on Sept 7 when the women’s duilian trio of Tan Cheong Min, Lee Jia Rong and Pang Pui Yee scored 9.630 to clinch the fifth gold medal and bring to close a historic campaign.
China dominated the championship with 15 golds, while Iran took second place. Malaysia proudly finished third overall, marking its best-ever showing at the World Wushu Championships.
