A dangerous overtaking manoeuvre along a winding hill road in Penang nearly ended in tragedy after a motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming car, sending both the female rider and a young girl tumbling onto the road.
According to a video uploaded to Penang Kini on Facebook today, the incident is believed to have taken place along Laluan Bukit Baru in Balik Pulau.
Crossed over double white line
Dashcam footage shows the motorcycle entering a bend before suddenly crossing over the double white line in an apparent attempt to overtake another vehicle.
The bike then enters the opposite lane and crashes directly into an oncoming car, causing both the rider and the child seated behind her to be thrown off onto the road.

In the aftermath of the crash, the female rider is seen quickly getting up to check on the child. Although her movements appear strained and she seems to be limping, both of them managed to support each other and move to the roadside for safety.
Fortunately, they were still able to stand on their own and didn’t seem to suffer severe injuries.

Sparks discussion online
The video quickly went viral online, sparking heated reactions from netizens. Many criticised the rider for reckless driving, accusing her of prioritising speed over safety.
Some pointed out that even if she was willing to take risks herself, she should not have endangered a child’s life.
Others noted that the car had already slowed down while approaching the bend, leading them to believe the collision was caused by the motorcycle’s dangerous overtaking.
However, some commenters expressed relief that both the rider and child survived the crash, calling it a wake-up call and urging all road users to exercise greater caution, especially when carrying young passengers.
