PUTRAJAYA – Netizens were outraged over a video which surfaced yesterday (Sept 10) showing a group of men given a ‘red carpet’ welcome into a mosque while others were forced to queue outside.
Twitter user @ryqallbarbossa shared the video along with a caption aimed in taking a jab at the mosque.
“Never mind, only VVIPs can enter syurga (Heaven).”
Throughout the video, the men alighted from a black vehicle and sauntered into the mosque as the gate swung open for their arrival.
As soon as they entered, the gate was shut behind them, leaving the rest who had waited patiently to look on in despair.

“Only VIPs can enter. As for those who have been waiting since 12.15pm, they weren’t allowed in,” claimed the videographer.

“We were only following the rules”
Following the video’s release, the management of Masjid Putra issued an apology over allegedly favoring VIPs over ordinary folks who were waiting to perform their Friday prayers, reported Kosmo!.
“We were only following the guidelines and SOPs set by the authorities. We also had to close the main gate as we had reached full capacity.
“For Friday prayers, only 300 people are allowed inside the mosque and from that number, we have also allocated a quota for those who have registered earlier,” it said in a statement today.
The management also promised to improve their services and are open to receiving feedback from the public.
