MOE Apologises For Flag Errors In SPM Report & Vows To Take Disciplinary Action

The 2024 SPM results analysis report contains errors in the illustrations of the Jalur Gemilang.
The Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued a formal apology following the discovery of errors in the depiction of the national flag, Jalur Gemilang, within the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Examination Results Analysis Report, according to The Star and Kosmo!.

In a statement released on April 24, MOE acknowledged the mistakes and described the negligence as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of national pride and sovereignty.

The ministry stated that immediate and strict action has been taken against those responsible, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.

According to Sin Chew Daily, these images were labeled as “AI-generated,” raising further concerns about the verification processes for official publications.

The MOE has instructed for the immediate withdrawal of the printed reports and is working to correct the errors.

The AI-generated images have been removed from the digital version of the report available on the Examinations Board website.

This incident follows a similar controversy involving Sin Chew Daily, which faced backlash for publishing a front-page illustration of the Jalur Gemilang without its crescent moon.

The publication issued an apology and pledged to enhance its editorial review procedures, especially concerning the use of artificial intelligence.
