A woman recently expressed frustration over her mother-in-law meddling in the baby naming process and asked netizens for advice over what to do.
MIL keeps insisting on naming baby herself
In a brief Threads post, the OP wrote that she endured much difficulty in carrying her unborn child for nine months and was looking forward naming it after its birth.
However, things soured no thanks to her mother-in-law’s insistence in having the last say over the child’s name.
“I carried my child for nine months and just like that, my mother-in-law told my husband to name my baby after her late father. What?!”
The OP then asked netizens for their opinion over the incident.
‘Your baby, your choice!’
In the comment section, netizens felt that the OP’s mother-in-law had no right in deciding the baby’s name as she wasn’t the one giving birth to it.
‘Just tell her no. Ask your MIL’s daughter to give birth to a child, then she can name it however she wants.’
‘Your baby, your choice. You’re the one who went through the journey and pain, not your MIL. Talk to them nicely as this is your right as the child’s mother.’
One suggested a softer approach by taking into consideration all of the proposed baby names and voting on the one that sounded the best, like how she did for her child.
