M’sian Says He Didn’t Renew Mercedes’ Road Tax As He Rarely Used The Car

JPJ officers found that he wasn't the Mercedes' registered owner.
In yet another instance of luxury car owners trying their luck in evading the law and failing, the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz E350 AMG Line was recently caught driving with an expired road tax.

According to a Facebook post by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kedah, the incident took place during an enforcement operation in Sungai Lalang on Feb 23.

Aside from an expired road tax, the Mercedes was also found to have an expired insurance coverage too.

‘I rarely drive the car’

When grilled about the expired insurance and road tax, the driver defended himself by claiming that he rarely used the Mercedes, which led him to not renewing the road tax.

However, further checks revealed that he wasn’t the registered owner of the car.

The driver and the car owner were later issued fines under Section 23(1) and Section 90(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for related offences.

As for the Mercedes, it was seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and taken to the Kuala Ketil Enforcement Station.
