Reckless drivers appear every now and then, and they’re a menace to road users as they endanger the public with their blatant disregard for traffic rules and safety.
A driver was recently nabbed by police in Batu Pahat, Johor, after a viral clip showed him overtaking another vehicle without warning, nearly coming to a head-on collision with a Proton Waja.
Mercedes-Benz nearly crashes into car in viral clip
In the 40-second clip shared to the Facebook group Community Roda Johor – CRJ yesterday (Mar 9), it showed a lorry driving along a two-lane trunk road on Jalan Sri Bengkal-Parit Yaani.
Suddenly, a silver Mercedes-Benz appeared out of nowhere and overtook the lorry at breakneck speed without turning the signal lights on.

After overtaking the lorry, the Mercedes-Benz continued to drive at a high speed, where it nearly collided head-on with a Proton Waja that was coming from the opposite direction.
Thankfully, the Proton Waja driver managed to swerve in time but nearly lost control of the car in the process.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz veered onto the grass before it sped away into the distance.

Driver arrested by police
Not long after the video went viral, police launched a manhunt for the Mercedes-Benz driver for reckless driving.
In less that 24 hours, the 65-year-old was eventually arrested in Taman Cemerlang by the Batu Pahat District Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department following a tip-off, reported NST.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the driver tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal record.
The case is now being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries up to five years in prison, a fine of up to RM15,000, and being barred from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years.
