In Melaka, a local restaurant owner’s act of generosity has captured the hearts of many, illustrating the enduring kindness within our communities.
The story, which gained attention on Facebook, revolves around a customer drawn to the restaurant by a “free meal” post.

Initially sceptical, he was surprised by the owner’s genuine offer upon visiting.
A Visit to Verify
Upon entering the restaurant, the customer, recently relocated to Melaka for work and finding their footing in a new city was greeted by the owner with a menu.
He requested the promotional meal, half-expecting the typical marketing gimmick. To his surprise, the owner not only confirmed the order but also assured that the Nasi Lemak – a popular Malaysian dish – was non-spicy to cater to all tastes.

Shortly after, the owner served a plate of Nasi Lemak with a complimentary glass of water and, to the customer’s astonishment, added two extra skewers of grilled chicken, kindling a suspicion that there might be a catch at the end.
As the meal progressed, these fears were allayed. The owner returned, not to ask for payment, but to offer more rice if needed, and simply stated, “Enjoy your meal, and feel free to leave whenever you’re ready.”
Overwhelmed by the gesture, the customer discreetly left a 20-ringgit note under the plate – a modest sum reflective of their limited means.

However, upon leaving, the owner chased after him, returning the money with a message that underscored the ethos of his generosity.
This money is yours. Don’t forget to take it with you. A bowl of rice might not cost much, but if it can help someone in their time of need, its value is priceless. Keep your spirits up, my friend.”
Netizens’ Appraisal
The story quickly went viral, with netizens heaping praise on the restaurant owner for his kindness and selflessness.

Additionally, in the wake of this viral story, a significant number of netizens have urged those who are not in financial difficulty to refrain from redeeming the free meal offer.
“Hope that only those who truly need it will partake of this kind-hearted food offering. Those who are capable shouldn’t abuse others’ goodwill to freeload meals and drinks. In this society, life is not easy for anyone.”

“I hope this initiative can help those currently without an income, but I also hope that people who can afford to pay for their meals won’t take advantage of the owner’s kindness. Otherwise, if the owner can’t sustain it, everyone loses out in the end.”
