Cybersecurity is crucial for everyone. Data breaches are becoming more common, with hackers constantly finding new ways to steal sensitive information.
From banks to social media sites, no one is safe from the threat of data leaks. The consequences can be serious, leading to financial losses, identity theft, and a major loss of trust.
Social media erupted yesterday with unsettling claims that the personal data of 22 million Maybank customers had been sold on the dark web.
The reports alleged that sensitive information, including names, birth dates, phone numbers, addresses, passwords, and other personal details, had been compromised.
In response to these allegations, Maybank has stepped forward to address the concerns head-on.
In an official statement released today, the bank assured its customers that their data remains secure and that Maybank’s systems have not been breached.
Via a post on Platform X, Maybank stated, “Regarding the alleged claim of Maybank2u Database being published on a dark web forum, Maybank would like to reassure our customers that our systems remain secure, and all Maybank customer information is fully protected.”
Maybank emphasised their dedication to safeguarding customer information, highlighting the various security measures in place.
These include the use of Secure2U for transaction authentication and a cooling-off period for high-risk transactions, ensuring enhanced protection for online transactions.
The bank also issued a reminder for customers to stay vigilant.
“We urge our customers to protect their User ID, password, and personal details. Be wary of potential threats such as malware, phishing sites, and unsolicited phone calls requesting your credentials.”
