At most ATMs, you’d probably see a single CCTV being installed right above the machine as part of surveillance measures and to prevent robberies or identity theft.
However, if you’ve recently noticed that ATMs from a particular bank has not one, but two CCTVs being installed, you’re not seeing things as it has been confirmed to be true.
Maybank explains why 2 CCTVs are needed
In a Facebook post, Maybank acknowledged that it has caught wind of questions being raised over the presence of two CCTVs at its ATMs.
It added that the extra CCTV was installed as part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade its ATM surveillance systems.

During this period, certain machines may have two cameras installed temporarily to ensure continuous monitoring. One of the cameras will be removed once the upgrade is complete.
“Rest assured, the cameras installed at our ATMs are solely for security and surveillance purposes. They are positioned to monitor general activity and are not intended to capture or store any personal information or transactional data entered by customers,” it wrote.
Netizens say ‘You sure ke?’
Despite Maybank’s attempt to assuage public fears that the presence of an additional CCTV will not jeopadise their banking details, netizens weren’t quite buying their explanation.
Many questioned the position of the extra CCTV, saying that it was placed right above the keypad, which could allow it to directly capture what’s being keyed in on the keypad.

Others accused the bank of unprofessionalism by hiding behind the excuse of not having the intention to spy on customers’ banking information.

Meanwhile, a netizen joked that Maybank was trying to “shame” him with the CCTV placement whenever he checked his balance of RM5.20.
