Desperate not to get nabbed by the religious authorities for committing ‘khalwat’ (close proximity), a man resorted to hiding inside an open ceiling for 45 minutes.
Unfortunately, this was ultimately foiled when the authorities found a ladder leading to the open ceiling and eventually caught the man.
Married M’sian man hides within ceiling for 45 mins
Harian Metro reported that Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) enforcement officers, along with personnel from the Kluang District Police Headquarters (IPD), went to a house in Kluang, Johor, for a ‘khalwat’ inspection on Sunday night (Aug 10).

They then knocked on the door for 45 minutes straight until a woman finally opened the door and told them there was no one else in the house.
JAINJ officers proceeded to search the bedrooms, the living room, the kitchen, and the bathroom but came up empty.
They also noticed the woman had grown increasingly nervous, leading them to suspect she was hiding something from them.
Their suspicions were later proven right when they found a ladder and an open ceiling, with one JAINJ officer climbing right into the ceiling and discovering the man hiding inside.

Checks revealed that the man was married and had two children, while the woman was also married and had three kids.
The duo was arrested and are now being investigated under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997.
Section 27(1)a and Section 27(1)b of the Johor Syariah Law Criminal Offences Enactment 1997 states that the offence of ‘khalwat’ carries a fine of RM3,000 or imprisonment of two years or both, upon conviction.
Recently, a couple from a university in Johor were caught committing the same offence, with them claiming it was nothing but an innocent study session:
