In a twist that sounds straight out of a movie, a man in the UK accidentally bought back his own stolen car, thinking it was just a lucky find.
On February 28, 36-year-old Ewan Valentine from Solihull, UK, woke up to discover that his black 2016 Honda Civic Type R had vanished.

After reporting the theft to police and notifying his insurer, he began searching for a replacement.
Found the exact same model, flaws included
Determined to find the exact same make and model, Ewan searched high and low until he came across what seemed like a perfect match at a dealership 70km away.
The car was the same year, model, and colour—with even a similar exhaust issue.
He paid £20,000 (approx. RM115,266) and brought the vehicle home.

Once the car was in his possession, Ewan noticed several odd similarities.
Lad Bible also reported that items inside the car—like a lone tent peg, some pine-scented air fresheners, and a chocolate bar wrapper—looked identical to what he had left in his stolen vehicle.
What confirmed his suspicions was the navigation history, which listed his home and his parents’ addresses.

“I nearly crashed, to be honest, because I was in shock… My hands were shaking; my heart was pounding,” Ewan told the BBC.
He said he felt victorious for a moment—until it hit him that he hadn’t found the car, but unknowingly bought it back, which he admitted felt “a bit stupid.”
Asked for a refund
According to the New York Post, Ewan later took the car to a local Honda dealership, where technicians confirmed it was indeed the same vehicle that had been stolen weeks earlier.
He also contacted the police to report the bizarre turn of events.
Believing the dealership had unknowingly acquired the stolen car, Ewan now hopes to get his money and deposit refunded.
