Durians, while loved by many, are usually banned from public places such as hotels and libraries due to its pungent smell that may send some scrunching their noses up.
A man was recently caught on camera tucking into a box of durians inside a library in Singapore and despite being told not to do so, continued to eat until it was entirely gone.
Man wolfs down entire box of durians inside S’pore library
The incident was filmed by a netizen named Jian Wei, who told Singaporean news outlet Stomp that it took place on May 13 inside the Choa Chu Kang Public Library at Lot One shopping mall at around 8.20pm.

In a screengrab of the video taken by Jian Wei, it showed the man clad in a blue t-shirt sitting with his legs folded while barefooted and savouring a box of durians.
According to Jian Wei, the durians emitted a strong smell all throughout the library. Strangely, it was strong enough to cause some to walk away but not strong enough to cause anyone to confront the man.
Eventually when the librarian did tell the man to leave, he simply ignored the former and continued with his pungent meal.
In the end, security staff had to step in and escort the man out, but it was a little too late as the entire box of durians had already been finished.

“The security told him to leave the premises, as he is not allowed to eat durian inside the mall.
When the security arrived, he had already finished the whole box. He did not resist but also acted like he did not care. He left after a minute,” added Jian Wei.
NLB responds
Stomp later reached out to the National Library Board (NLB) for comment on the matter, with a spokesperson confirming they were aware of it.
“Our staff had approached the patron to remind him to adhere to the library’s code of conduct, which clearly states that eating is not allowed in the library.
“NLB seeks our patrons’ cooperation in ensuring that the libraries, as shared spaces, remain a conducive space for all to enjoy by following good library etiquette. We also encourage patrons who spot such behaviour to approach any of our staff for assistance.”
