A man thought he was being slick and tried to take off with a golden chain worth RM30,000 at a jewellery shop in Paka, Terengganu.
However, little did he know that the shop’s automatic door would be his undoing and ultimately foil his attempt with the heist.
Bolted for the door but gets trapped
In a TikTok video shared by the jewellery shop, it showed the man, who was wearing a cap and a face mask, examining the gold chain at the counter.
Few seconds later, he immediately rushed towards the front door in an attempt to flee but discovered that it was locked.
As he struggled to unlock the door, another customer quickly stepped in and wrestled him to the ground to prevent his escape.

The video then shows the man being held in a chokehold by the customer as they waited for police to arrive.

Used car with fake license plate
Dungun District Police Chief, Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir said the incident occurred on Thursday (Dec 25), reported The Vibes.
“The 33-year-old suspect asked the shop staff to fetch a gold chain, claiming he intended to purchase it. He then attempted to seize the chain and flee.
“However, a staff member managed to lock the shop’s automatic door and stopped him from fleeing,” she said.
Upon his arrest, the suspect was taken to the Dungun District Police Headquarters for further investigation, where it was found that he used a car with a fake number plate, which was registered under his uncle’s name.

He is currently on remand until today and the case is being probed under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
