Despite the hefty consequences that await owners who pump RON95 into their foreign-registered car, there are still a handful who pay a deaf ear to it and persist in the illegal act.
One such case has surfaced yet again, this time involving a Singapore-registered luxury car at a petrol station in Johor.
Man pumps RON95 into SG-registered BMW
In a now-viral 50-second clip shared to the Facebook group ROADS.sg yesterday (Apr 8), it showed the dashcam owner pulling up at the petrol station, where a dark blue BMW was in front of him.
Instead of putting the RON97 gas pump into his vehicle, the man is seen pulling out the RON95 pump and begins refueling his car.

Throughout the seconds that the man spent pumping RON95 into his car, no one stepped in to stop him or inform him that he did was against the law.
Worker jumps in
Thankfully, a petrol station worker noticed the man pumping RON95 into his foreign-registered car and quickly walked towards him, where he immediately removed the pump from the vehicle.

The worker is seen then speaking to the man, although what the conversation was remains unknown.
According to the caption, the incident took place at the petrol station located in Tebrau on Monday (Apr 7) at around 3.50pm.
Criticism from netizens
Needless to say, the man’s action drew condemnation from netizens, where they slammed him for taking advantage of Malaysia’s subsidised petrol and breaking the law.
‘Cheapskate! Drive BMW some more! Shame!’

‘Cheapo class. Got money for BMW but no money for petrol.’

Even Singaporeans expressed embarrassment for their countryman’s deed, with one calling upon the Malaysian authorities to give the man a fine.

Under Malaysian law, owners of foreign cars who are caught pumping RON95 petrol can face a fine of up to RM1 million or a jail sentence of not more than three years, or both.
As for petrol station owners who fail to enforce the rule, they face a fine of not more than RM2 million.
