‘Good Luck Bro!’ — Man Posts Photo Of SG Immigration Officer On FB, Faces 2 Years In Jail

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
It’s natural for one to rant on social media when things don’t go as smoothly as expected, but there are certain lines that cannot be crossed when doing so.

A man is facing potential jail time and a fine after he uploaded several photos of an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at Woodlands Checkpoint, where it’s an offense in Singapore.

In a Facebook post shared to the group Complaint Singapore on Aug 12, the netizen wrote that he and his wife were driving through Woodlands Checkpoint and talking to his wife about “some incident”.

At that point, the ICA officer allegedly asked him whether the conversation was about him, which left the man baffled.

The man also claimed that the officer demanded that he wind the car window down when it “was already wound down”.

In the post, the man wrote that the ICA officer told him to come with him to the office, where he spent the next 30 minutes straightening out the situation.

However, this clearly left a bad taste in his mouth, where he accused the officer of having a bad attitude.

Yesterday (Aug 15), a statement was released by ICA, where it shed further light on what actually took place.

According to the statement, the man made “uncalled-for remarks” when the officer told him to take down the sunshade on the right passenger window.

He also took photos and videos of the officer when the latter was contacting his supervisors to make a report regarding the incident.

The man was then brought to the Duty Office, where he was let off with a stern warning after “admitting to taking photographs and videos within the checkpoint premises” and “agreeing to delete them”.

However, he renegaded on his word and posted the photos and videos online.

‘Good luck to you!’

In the comment section, netizens couldn’t help but to pour scorn on the man for blatantly breaking the law and sarcastically wished him the best for the consequences bound to come his way.

Under Singapore’s Infrastructure Protection Act, those convicted of committing such an offence face a fine of up to S$20,000 (approx. RM67,200), a jail term of up to two years, or both.

It is also understood that the case has since been referred to the police, who are now investigating the matter.
