Arguments with neighbours are sometimes unavoidable, but some would go all out to make their neighbour’s life a living hell out of sheer pettiness.
A man in China was so incensed following a dispute with neighbour that he resorted to playing ghost stories non-stop for hours a day, much to the latter’s annoyance.
Played “ghostly sounds” non-stop
According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China reported that a man named Lu and his partner Li, got into an argument with their neighbour Xie.
However, it’s not disclosed what led to the feud.

In an act of “revenge”, Lu and Li installed a loudspeaker against the shared wall and played ghost stories from 8.45am to noon, and again from 3.30pm to 10pm every single day.
It also included eerie “ghostly mountain sounds” being played on loop for more than 10 hours a day.
While it’s not known how long this unwanted broadcast lasted, it certainly made life a living nightmare not only for Xie, but other residents living upstairs as well.
One resident named Cui, who lived two floors away, told the media that the noise severely disrupted his child’s study session, who was preparing for a highly competitive college entrance examination.

To further add to Cui’s frustration, no penalties could be imposed against Lu as the noise level inside his home was 36 decibels, which was less than the regulatory thresholds of 60 decibels during the day and 50 decibels at night.
Ordered to stop recordings
In the end, Cui had to apply for a pre-litigation injunction at the Guangzhou Haizhu District People’s Court.
Thankfully, the court ruled in his favour and ordered Lu to stop playing the ghostly recordings.

Lu eventually dismantled the audio equipment, deleted the “ghost” recordings and promised not to cause further noise disturbances while under court supervision.
